The Planning and Statistics Authority has released the 65th issue of (Qatar; Monthly Statistics) bulletin; a series of statistical newsletters released on a monthly basis. In this issue, we highlighted the most important statistical changes that occurred in the country during May 2019 in addition to extracts from the results of the 2015 Census.
The most prominent change in this issue is the of rise in the currency issued at a monthly rate of 13.7% compared to April 2019 and at an annual rate of 10.7% compared to May 2018. In addition, total deposits and credit facilitates witnessed an increase at a monthly rate of 0,7 % and 1.7%, respectively compared to April 2019, and at an annual rate of 2.7% and 5.6% respectively compared to May 2018.
The demographic statistics showed that the total population of Qatar has increased from 2.73 million during May 2018 to 2.74 million at end of May 2019, an annual increase of 0.3%.
Regarding to Vital Statistics, 2199 live births has been registered during May 2019, a 8.7% increase compared to April 2019. An increase in the total Qatari live births by 19.0% compared to last month. On the other hand, 191 deaths were recorded during the same period, an increase of 3.8% compared to April 2019.
Moreover, April 2019 has experienced a decrease in marriage contracts and divorce certificates. The total number of marriage contracts was 267 contracts, whereas the total No. of divorces has reached 48 divorce cases; namely, one divorce for every 6 marriages.
Social Security statements, reached 86.479 thousand Qatari Riyals in May 2019, for 15618 beneficiaries.
Total electricity consumption during May 2019 was 4209.8 GWh attaining a monthly increase of 31.9% and an annual rise of 27.1%. While the total water consumption has reached 55506.1 Thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly increase of 10.7% and an annual rise of 38.1%.
The data of buildings permits issued, the total number of permits has reached 659 permits during May 2019, recording a monthly decrease of 11.3%.
Traffic accidents cases, a total of 541 traffic cases were recorded during May 2019, showing a monthly increase of 7.3%. Light injuries are accounted for the vast majority of traffic accidents during the same month, with 87%, followed by severe injuries by 10%. However, 19 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 3% of total traffic accidents.
The total number of registered new vehicles during May 2019 has reached 5665 new vehicles. The figure showed a monthly decrease of 0.7% and an annual increase of 4.1%.
For Banking Sector; Total Broad Money Supply (M2) recorded about 554.9 Billion Qatari Riyals during May 2019, an annual decrease of 4.5% compared with May 2018. On the other hand, cash equivalents; including Commercial Bank Deposits, attained for 806.3 Billion Qatari Riyals during May 2019. The figure has recorded an annual increase of 2.7% compared to May 2018, when deposits recorded approximately 785.4 Billion Qatari Riyals.
