On Wednesday, May 7, the National Planning Council (NPC) concluded a field training program at its headquarters for a group of female students enrolled in the Applied Geography and Geographic Information Systems program at Qatar University.
Spanning more than three months, the program took place at the Department of Statistical Systems at the National Statistical Centre. Throughout the program, students received hands-on training in cutting-edge Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies through workshops that incorporated practical applications in GIS-specialized field projects.
During the training, students were also introduced to the National Statistics Center's operations, particularly its use of GIS to generate accurate statistics and data, which are then leveraged to support decision-makers in crafting evidence-based, informed decisions.
This training program is part of the ongoing collaboration between the National Planning Council, Qatar University, and all educational institutions. These initiatives aim to integrate academic knowledge with its practical application by refining students' skills, familiarizing them with the real-world work environments, and preparing them to make significant contributions to the development process.
